The ‘MS DEUTSCHLAND’ pays a visit to LINDENAU

Bernd Wittorf, Director Refit/Repair Department
The “MS DEUTSCHLAND” was built at our shipyard in Kiel when it was still a part of the HDW Group (Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft) – long before it became the GERMAN NAVAL YARDS. NOBISKRUG constructed the bow section and was also involved in fitting out the liner. Good reasons for us to have a particular soft-spot for the ship.

A real dream liner doesn’t call in at every port. But the ‘MS DEUTSCHLAND’ and the GERMAN NAVAL YARDS group are old friends. Back in 2001, the cruise liner familiar to millions from the German TV series ‘Traumschiff’ (Dream Liner) was placed in the capable hands of the NOBISKRUG professionals for a refit and repairs.

From 10.8.2015, the ‘MS DEUTSCHLAND’ will be paying a visit to LINDENAU, our sister yard. The lifeboats are in for inspection during her stay. The LINDENAU yard will be coordinating any other work required with the client, Cruise America Associates. In mid-September, the ‘Dream Liner’ will be setting sail specifically for her next cruise under a brand new name – ‘WORLD ODYSSEY’.

The ‘MS DEUTSCHLAND’ sailed the world from 1999 to 2015 as the ‘Traumschiff’ in the German TV series of the same name. The cruise liner was built in 1998 at HDW shipyard in Kiel (Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH). Their surface vessel shipbuilding division is still in existence today under the name of the  GERMAN NAVAL YARDS Kiel, a part of the group to which LINDENAU also belongs.
