“ALKOR” and “POSEIDON” as LINDENAU shipyard’s Guests

All about science: With "ALKOR" and "POSEIDON" the LINDENAU shipyard welcomes two research vessels at once in the middle of this year’s November. Both are in use for the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. Purpose of the yard stay lasting several weeks are general painting and repair measurements as well as adjustments within the piping system. On "POSEIDON" additional shipbuilding and machinery works are being executed in the area of the research equipment besides corrections at the interior design.

Owner of “ALKOR” as well as “POSEIDON” is the Land of Schleswig-Holstein; the two multi-purpose-research vessels are both operated by Briese Schiffahrt GmbH & Co. KG from which LINDENAU received the order for the works. “We are very pleased being first choice for the execution of these repair works. Both ships are very familiar to us due to past shipyard stays,“ Frank Hildebrandt, Operations Manager of LINDENAU shipyard, comments happily adding: „The works will be finished already this week so that both research vessels can be handed over to the client before Christmas – ready and prepared for new research orders. “

Back at domain, the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, both ships will be setting sails in 2017 in the service of research: While the route plan of “ALKOR”, which was put into service in 1990, mostly leads towards the Nordic regions, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea as well as Kattegat and Skagerrak, the “POSEIDON” is mostly operating in the Northern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and occasionally in the Black Sea.
