History
![]() Ideally located in Kiel, just off the Kiel Canal, LINDENAU is one of the most modern, productive and innovative medium-sized shipyards in Germany. The yard has built up a well-deserved reputation as a designer and builder of special vessels of high quality. Founded in 1919 by naval architect and mechanical engineer Paul Lindenau in Memel (today called Klaipeda), the company moved to Kiel after World War II. When the founder died in 1955, his son, graduate engineer Harald Lindenau, became manager of the company. Under his direction a modern and efficient medium-sized shipyard has been developed. At the end of 1994 the shipyard celebrated its 75th anniversary. More than 225 ships have been developed, designed and built up to now. Today the LINDENAU GmbH, Shipyard and Machinery Plant, is under the direction of managing director Mr. Dieter Kühne. Shareholders include the Lindenau family, Mr. Günter Steen and PAAR International GmbH, Hamburg. Early in the "fifties" the yard constructed ships according to industrial manufacturing methods. From the very beginning the LINDENAU shipyard followed its own development and engineering capacity that today comprises a total manpower of 25 highly qualified naval architects, engineers, technicians and draftsmen with outstanding know-how. With its 75 years experience LINDENAU is the right partner to develop, design and construct in close co-operation with its clients a profitable and economical ship at the right price in the shortest possible time. Modern and continually up-dated equipped production facilities, a perfect industrial handling and production system and an integrated CAD/CAM and ERP system makes LINDENAU a competitive, future oriented company and partner. Quality control through all stages of design, construction up to tests and trials are carried out by experienced and qualified yard specialists. Sea trials are carried out in the bay of Eckernförde, where speed measurement can be executed by passing "mile buoys". All other tests take place directly at the yard. |
